Wednesday 18 May

This morning Dad and I did a quick coffee run early before the Martinellis arrived. GRamps was up having his brekkie when we returned. We had planned for the 4 of us to go up to Atria to remeasurw the rooms again with certain pieces of furniture in mind. This was useful and I think we have now settled on a basic list of bigger critical things and will fill in with smaller things where we can once the bigger things are in place. We are also trying to bring things up without disturbing their daily routines here in the house.
On return dad and I spent the afternoon doing small jobs for N&G or running errands. They have found 3 watches all of which had stopped working. dad took these down to the Mexican jeweller who installs new batteries for $5 and that resulted in three working watches. There was a batch of letters to mail at the post office, they have a PO box across the street but Gramps refuses to use it because it has been broken into twice. Gramps also needed a new supply of cranberry juice which has become his drink of choice. Jane recommended this as good for fighting infection and whatever Jane recommends has become like a bible.
One of the sheer curtains in the living room had a hem that had come down, so was driving on the floor. So I did a hem job on that, there was miles of the stuff and it was pretty dusty and grotty but got it done. Mom also had some fabric for a baby blanket that she had never managed to put together so I  got that done today too. She is on rPtures with the result, one minute wanting to give it away, the next wanting to keep it. I had a request from Anna for one of the small black sewing rulers with the sliding metal marker. NO problems as Noni has many, she did not even realise HOW many. I brought in a selection of these from my sorting work in the sewing room and she was amazed. Of course she picked out a few favourites to take up there.
She is still pouring over the cookbooks and really should take a stack with her as she just loves looking at them. Photos are still turning up here and there and these stimulate long conversations and small disagreements about places and people, all healthy.
During my morning walks I have done a bit of gathering of different succulents that she did not have so I made a small pot of those hoping she can take them with her.
Towards the late afternoon Noni suggested that Dad and I walk down and get something to eat. She had something organised for Gramps and was not worried about herself, or so she said. So we took off for the Jamaican place and had an enjoyable meal and a few beers. Linda called towards the end to see where we were as when she had arrived at Miller Ave Noni was wishing that she HAD asked us to bring something back for her and she could not be bothered getting a meal out of her kitchen.
We ran into Linda at our fav morning cafe where she was getting something for them.
Not surprising, Noni has had a number of disasters and near misses in the kitchen over the last year and if she starts to cook something she gets anxious about half way through. She will still hover and direct if I am doing something in there but loves to have things cooked for her. On this front Atria will suit her.
